Corrode (Surface Rust, Book 2)

By Ella Fields

Corrode by Ella Fields is just WOW! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this book and can’t tell you how much without feeling the need to shout it from the rooftops! Corrode is book two in the Surface Rust series about the Williams Brothers. In this second chance romance, readers get a glimpse into Felix and Maggie from the a duel perspective that left me gutted repeatedly. Let me stress that last part, GUTTED!!! I literally laughed, cried and wanted to throw my kindle at one point.

Corrode begins with Felix’s release from his stint in prison. (Readers of Ella Fields will remember this from Cyanide, book one in the Surface Rust series.) During his incarceration Felix is only visited by his brother Jared and longtime friend Sam, leaving a gapping hole in his heart where his longtime girlfriend Maggie should be. As the other half of his heart is missing, all Felix can do is wait in angst to see his child for the first time and wonder what happened with Maggie-who he’s not seen or heard from in nineteen months. With a long standing stable relationship, Felix is justifiably angry, and hurt, and left to question whether he will ever be able to forgive or forget…Could you?

By no means is Corrode my first book by Ella Fields but it was definitely my favorite so far. I have a love/hate relationships with second chance romance because you know they are going to pull on your heartstrings…How could they not when love is pushed to the brink and in most cases fails in some way for the Hero and Heroine in these tropes?! Yet, this book was written beautifully, it began with Felix’s release, then time jumped back to the beginning and middle of the love affair between Felix and his Lil Doe, as he calls Maggie. In doing so, the author spun a beautiful and intricate web for readers that was both give and take with the emotions we invested in the story. Ella Fields knew that the strongest bonds were built on a solid foundation and that’s what she established for Felix and Maggie. And then she left me completely blow away by a turn of events that I never expected. I refuse to ruin a story with spoilers in a review, so I won’t start here. However, I have to say I literally never saw the events that take place in this story coming. And to me, and unpredictable story is something a reader should truly cherish!

Felix and Maggie take turns telling their sides of the story and allow you to emotionally invest in both characters and pull all the more for their second chance at love! Also, the sexy times in this book were both intense and very emotionally driven. I loved how invested I got in the story – to the point that I stayed up all night to finish it. (As a mom of 3 young children that’s a tall order!) Also, I loved how well thought out the storyline was and how well written it is. There were no loose ends, no stories building that are unfulfilled. The story was truly a standalone. You in no way have to read Cyanide before reading Corrode.

Corrode is everything I love in a book…its unique. Intricate. Angsty. Beautifully written. Sizzling with passion and so, so much more. I can not recommend Corrode enough and can promise that you too will be just as captivated whether your reading Ella Fields for the first time or a long time lover of her work!
