Wrecking Us Saving You – 5 Stars

description

First, can we take a moment and appreciate the sheer beauty of this cover?!?! It’s BREATHTAKING, isn’t it?!?!?!

I hate picking a favorite book, I totally do. I usually try to categorize my favorite titles. Let’s face it… when you read a book, your mindset at the time goes a long way into how you are going to rate a book. Factors in your life or if your children are driving you batty, etc. So, I make a point of doing things to decompress before I read books that I know are going to lead me to feel more intensely. Maybe I choose to drink a glass of wine or read in the bath if it’s an ugly cry book. For dark romance, (as much as I love it) I back it up with lighter reads or a rom-com. My methods vary. Also, I tend to find new authors at least once a week through my blogging and editorial services business. I consider myself lucky in that regard. But let’s face it we all need to vary what we read to keep the stories fresh and a good mix of genres, so we don’t burn out. So, if I had to guess the exact number of books I have read to date in 2018, I’d say maybe fifty-five to sixty books.

Of the books I have read in 2018, could I pick a clear favorite to date? Yes. That would be the latest book by Leaona Luxx, Wrecking Us, Saving You. And this comes on the heels of reading books by some of my favorite authors. Again, I truly hate to pick favorites, but sometimes certain author’s talent takes the decision away. When you have one author who systematically breaks your heart and then gives it back to you, all shiny and new?! When a book is exceptionally well written? Or holds you utterly captivated from cover to cover? For all of these reasons, and more you’ll find yourself in the same predicament as me, picking a clear favorite! I would even say that this book is my favorite ugly cry book to date. Moreover, when I said that I prep myself before reading certain genres and work to keep my reading material new and fresh? Yeah, none of that mattered. Quite literally, nothing could have prepared me for the story I consumed. And I truly mean NOTHING! I have read this book cover to cover twice and it’s the most heart wrenching and beautiful work I have read in a long time. Luxx destroyed…nope, she obliterated my ‘system’ and I’d love to hate her for that. But I just can’t! Instead, I want to thank her. As a reader the only way I know how to do that is by leaving this review. By telling everyone I talk to or reach through my blog that they need Wrecking Us, Saving You in their lives. Yes, you should absolutely by stock in Kleenex because a box or two will not cut it. Make no mistake, you will be gutted reading Wrecking Us, Saving You. I don’t have a black heart by any stretch of the imagination, but I love a well written angsty read and this one affected me more than anything I have read in the past that I could name.

Wrecking Us, Saving You is Leaona Luxx’s six book and without question her best work. I am constantly in aww of this author’s storytelling abilities. For readers who have read Luxx previous work, you are finally getting Chord and Sarah’s long-awaited story. I won’t say more than that for a synopsis. Read the book, you’ll appreciate me remaining quiet and not spoiling it for you. The conflict in this story is positively genius and should not be misconstrued by what may seem obvious. I loved the pace of this book. It seemed to keep the perfect tempo from start to finish – especially considering that this story is told both in the present and the past…as any second chance romance is. Wrecking Us, Saving You is super sexy. Yet, since Chord and Sarah fall in love in high school, it’s got that sweet first-time love aspect as well.

Readers expect great characters when they pick up a book by Leaona Luxx, and Wrecking Us, Saving You doesn’t disappoint. While each book Luxx has released has been a standalone, readers can enjoy the appearance of their previous favorite characters in this story. At the heart and soul of her books, the characters are a family. And while I have personally maintained my solid support of Walker (from Collision) as my favorite of Luxx’s heroes, this was challenged while I read Wrecking Us, Saving You. I can’t help but tell you that Chord is positively yummy – sweet as sugar and truly dedicated to those he loves. Like all her heroes, Chord loves true and deep once he finds love. I may be jaded by the men I have known IRL but there is one aspect of the story I briefly struggled with. (Of course, if I tell you what that one point is I am also giving away a small facet of Chord’s personality that I prefer not to. If your curious after you read the book – find my blog, or my Facebook group and I would be happy to discuss it.) Also, Luxx continues to write heroines that are awe inspiring. Sarah is definitely well written – I loved her grit and strength. Luxx’s heroines tend to rival the heroes of her books and I would gladly debate that Sarah is the strongest example of this so far.

All too often, I think readers underestimate the sheer brilliance of indie authors. Obviously, with the availability to self-publish that is slowly by surely changing. Yet, somehow authors still get overlooked for far too long. As someone how discovers new authors weekly, if not more often, I am here to say y’all really need to stand up and take notice of Leaona Luxx. She is brilliant. Her stories are heartwarming and original. Leaona Luxx writing is just exceptional and I would be mind-blown if you read Wrecking Us, Saving You and are not just as firmly sold on her as an author as I am. While I know I stated earlier that I don’t like to pick favorite books, that doesn’t mean I don’t have favorite authors. Luxx certainly maintains her title as one of my favorites after her latest work. Thank you Leaona Luxx for continuing to release such beautiful books.
