True North is the conclusion of the Bad Idea trilogy wherein Layla and Nico finally get their Happily Ever After. As I have read and reread this series multiple times since Bad Idea released in November, I have developed very deep feelings for the characters and was fully vested in the outcome of the series. I truly loved True North for several reasons and hopefully after you’re read this review you will start reading this book for yourself. I won’t bore you with my synopsis of the story and would instead urge you to buy the book and get started!

Nicole French is an extremely gifted storyteller and True North is proof of this claim. She writes beautiful, unique and enthralling books that will leave you with all the feels.  Although this book is written well enough to be a complete standalone, it is infinitely more enjoyable if you’ve read the other two books in the series: Bad Idea and Lost Ones. As an author, Nicole French’s ability to take a signal book that is part of a trilogy and have it structurally sound enough that you don’t absolutely need to read the previous books to understand the context is impressive! It is also a talent that few authors possess and yet each book within the series can be read as a standalone. Another important facet about True North and the Bad Idea series as a whole is how believable it all is. True North successfully blends realism and romance. Also, as I read, I found that my own emotions were reflections of those that Nico and Layla experienced as the story progressed. Since True North is packed full of emotion, the reader should be prepared to delve into an array of emotions!!! Some of the emotions were incredibly painful and led me to memories of a darker time in my life.  The plot for True North is one that sounds like it should be simple, after all the boy has already met the girl, and they are together. Yet, relationships are hard and merging the lives of two people is rarely straightforward… so Nico and Layla have their work cut out for them and if the detours and roadblocks don’t break them apart then they will only be stronger as individuals and as a couple. Nicole French wrote True North in duel perspectives and it’s really my favorite POV. I love the connection it provides to both the hero and heroine.

I’ve discussed in depth over my reviews for Bad Idea and Lost Ones just how much I loved the characters of Nico and Layla and nothing has changed. If anything, over the course of the three books I only grew to love them more and more as Nicole French developed them with the evolving storyline. I was deeply invested in their HEA and after three books, it’s like they are old friends! The sheltered girl/woman we meet in Bad Ideas has grown into a beautiful woman that I felt proud to know. She’s so much stronger and nobody’s doormat. Nico is and always will be one of my favorite heroes… and he reigns supreme for me as the ultimate book boyfriend. His love for his family and Layla constantly gave me the warm and fuzzies! Also, Nico and Layla are scorching hot together and only got hotter with each instance! And their predilection for sex in places they can get caught is alive and well. 😉   Since I truly don’t want to ruin the book by including spoilers in my review, so I will leave it at this.  This is not a series you should pass up. Bad Idea is free at the time of this review so what better time to get the books and get to reading?!?!?!
