Rules of Submission by Leigh Lennon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Leigh Lennon couldn’t have followed up Color Bling with a better story than she did with the second book of her Fans of Football series, Rules of Submission. I was very excited when I learned this book was coming because Candy and Lang intrigued me so much and their story was one I was desperate for after I finished reading Color Blind. Truthfully, this book was more than I ever expected. While this is the second book in a series, and the couple it represents story actually runs parallel to the previous book, Leigh painstakingly wrote a book that can easily be read as a standalone. However, it is still my recommendation that you read Color Blind first and then Rules of Submission as the story gains additional dimensions when you read it from the perspectives of Liz and Isreal, the female and male protagonists of Color Blind. These additional perspectives provide an insight that adds angst, heartbreak and ultimately beauty to the story.
Rules of Submission is a very character driven romance that was extremely well written, and made me cry real tears… but, it was also hot with the addition of some BDSM elements. The story is written in dual perspectives and I particularly loved the character growth in this book. Although I am rather picky about the books I read within this particular category of romance, I did think Leigh exhibited decent skills and some research into the lifestyle. But again, I am rather picky about these books, and I hold a very high standard for authors. It is very clear when an author either has spent extensive time researching or in fact participates in the lifestyle. And while I wasn’t left with that impression, the way the lifestyle choices played into the development of characters who have lived with extremely difficult and hefty pasts made this a truly enjoyable read. It’s been my experience that Leigh writes hot storylines, and this one was well done…that said, it didn’t leave me with drenched panties or in need of a cold shower either. But I couldn’t put it down and would recommend Rules of Submission just the same. Candy and Lang have truly experienced the worse life could throw at them, and they deserved their own HEAs. Leigh Lennon definitely gave them that and brought a sweetness to a book that would otherwise been very heavy. I would give this book 4.5 Stars and tell you to grab it up and read if for yourself 😊
