King: 13 Little Lies – 5 Stars

King: 13 Little Lies by K.L. Donn is significantly different from previous works by this author… King: 13 Little Lies is K.L. Donn’s first foray into Dark Romance. Usually, a brief synopsis would be offered for those reading my review. However, to keep this review completely spoiler free, I have decided to forgo the synopsis altogether. Readers will delight in the intensity K.L. Donn introduces in her first novella for a new series, Adair Empire. The foundation for the Adair Empire is family. All else comes second. King: 13 Little Lies is darker and grittier. This Novella will leave you chomping at the bit to read more of K.L. Donn’s dark romance. As the start of a new series, K.L. Donn made several brilliant choices. The first was writing the characters of King and Lilith. King Adair is the anti-hero. His kingdom was established on crime and although he doesn’t lack morality, his version of it is skewed from what would normally hold true. His Queen, Lilith, is not without her own demons. Like King, Lilith is an anti-heroine. Together, the taboo becomes the norm and kindles will be set on fire as the chemistry between King and Lilith blazes brightly. Though love is not the immediate result of their meeting, the lust they experience is intense and scorching hot! Secondary characters play a huge roll in this novella and set up the precedence for future books within the Adair Empire series. These secondary characters are men who are intensely loyal and anti-heroes in their own right. As King’s elite, inner circle, they would willing lay down their lives for either their Queen or their King.Other signs of K.L. Donn’s brilliance is writing this novella were shown with the strong show of secondary characters that can and will be given their own books. This is smart marketing. Additionally, K.L. Donn wrote King:13 Little Lies in duel POV. She made it far easier for readers to related to King and Lilith. Anti-heroes and anti-heroines operate with their own moral compass. Without duel POV, I fear connecting with the character who has no voice in a dark romance is much, much harder. K.L. Donn keeps readers on the edge of their seats throughout this novella and while there is not a cliffhanger ending, you will still be left anticipating future books! I certainly do – March can not come soon enough so we can get our hands on Luther’s story!

I highly recommend this book for those of you that love dark romance or taboo reads. K.L. Donn ‘s King: 13 Little Lies is beautifully well written. It is a quick read that will surely wet your appetite for more!
