Forbidden Lyrics (Lightning Strikes, book 3) by Jodie Larson is just as phenomenal as it’s predecessors but for entirely different reasons. I discovered Jodie before attending a author signing by chance. Over the course of reading the Lightning Strikes books, Brecken totally stole my heart. When I saw that his book was up next in the series, I started jumping up and down in my seat, and no joke, immediately started stalking the poor author on every social media site I could find her on. It’s noteworthy that while I met her in person at the signing, it wasn’t until I was home that I put two and two together to realize that I not only loved her work, but that she had been the author that left me gutted when I read Serenading the Shadows. I knew through reading Kade and Miles books that Brecken had a thing for Lizzy, Miles’s sister. But I was woefully unprepared for just how deep his feeling ran for her. I mean, a simple kiss, irrupted before it could be more then just a simple kiss…yet this simple kiss led to years of built up longing on both Brecken and Lizzy’s parts that would pave the way for…everything! Finally, Breck and Lizzy’s time has come, and Jodie Larson could not have told a more beautiful story.
If you’ve read previous books by Jodie Larson, you expect a certain caliber of writing and flare to accompany her stories. Her words are truly beautiful and well crafted. Forbidden Lyrics certainly does not disappoint. Larson’s books are always well written with characters that you just want to hug and shake at the same time. I love that her books are full of angst and heartache and while they are exceptionally sexy it is not a result of sacrificing the story in any way. I mean, sure they have lots of sexy times…which I greatly appreciate in a romance! But the sexy times are not the story. Instead they are definitely a show of support in the chemistry department BUT nonetheless an actual plot exists. rama exists like one would experience in real life and not just fiction. Lizzy and Brecken keep their budding romance under wraps to avoid hurting the person they are both closest to. The Bro Code is real, you know?! And while it’s a significant part of this romance, it’s not the only obstacle this hero and heroine must overcome to find their HEA. Breck and Lizzy will singe your kindles and leave you wanting a cold shower. You will absolutely love the premise that this unrequited love will finally see the light of day…I certainly did!
Another important factor that Larson takes great pains to include in this series is the importance of family and friends. I mean, honestly, we all have some sort of support system in place, and so do Larson’s characters. The entire Lightning Strikes band is far more than just acquaintances; they are a family first and foremost. Money is only worth so much and these guys seem to acknowledge that as their success continues to exceed their wildest expectations. And even though Miles’ title as the a$$hole is alive and well in Forbidden Lyrics, his role as the big brother and best friend is what caused the majority of the existing strife. The secondary characters are just as much a part of the story as the hero and heroine in Larson’s works and that keeps me far more then just entertained…it keeps me emotionally invested in their HEA. I know that I am extremely excited to see what Larson has planned for Pax and hope that his book is next on her agenda!
I love rockstar romance. I love experiencing new authors. It was a no-brainer to me to pick up Serenading the Shadows a few months back to get a little of both in my life. But, make no mistake, just because I love both rockstar romance, and new authors, I do not read multiple titles by an author just because they have one book classify in the aforementioned categories. They have to have an adeptness to writing a story that is not only entertaining, but clever and endearing. Their stories need to entwine themselves into my heart because I will undoubtedly read them more then once. Jodie’s stories meet all my expectations for a great read, and it’s easy to love her words. Brecken and Lizzy’s story feels different then it’s predecessors but that’s just another reason to love Larson’s work. It’s not the same story reproduced again and again. It’s new and excited each time. Do yourself a favor…Buy Forbidden Lyrics. You certainly won’t be sorry! Regardless of whether you’ve read Larson’s work before or not, this story will have you falling in love with Brecken! Second chance romances and rockstars have never meet so beautifully…
