Wow – No joke, I have such a book hangover from False Perceptions by Michelle Heard. This book was everything!!!!!! I am at a loss as how to tell you just how incredible I found the story I read. False Perceptions was very intense, and the subject matter may not be something that everyone can handle. This military romance is full of action, but it’s also full of darker elements like torture, death and corruption. While romances don’t always guarantee readers the HEA they may be expecting, it is expected that in some way the hero and heroine will find some measure of it nevertheless. For Hayden and Emilie, true devastation lies between them and a HEA. They also go up against an enemy they hadn’t seen coming! Their paths have both been a very broken road; the path that Hayden and Emilie have traveled as individuals have stripped them down to their cores, costing them nearly everything and yet, that same path also draws them together and allows the pair a chance at the illusive ‘more’ they only hoped existed.
False Perceptions takes readers on a journey that will tear you apart before it restores you. This slow burn romance is beautifully written. Michelle Heard penned a thoroughly engrossing romance. The story was *mostly* unpredictable and through me for a loop on several occasions. I also ugly cried through a portion of the book. The hero, Hayden, and heroine, Emilie, experienced tragedies so devastating, it’s amazing that they came back from them at all. Between Emilie’s kidnapping and torture to the catastrophic mission that Hayden and his team of Navy Seals undertakes shortly thereafter, this book is literally impossible to walk away from. Although it’s predominately told from Hayden and Emilie’s perspectives, the other members of Hayden’s team have brief moments when it’s their voice that speaks to the reader. It really added to the intensity of the scene and was a stroke of genius on behalf of the author in my humble opinion! The author obviously has incredible storytelling ability and I can’t help but wonder why I haven’t read every word she’s ever written now. Believe me, I am kicking myself for just discovering Michelle Heard. I found False Perception to be a thoroughly entertaining read and come away with only one complaint – The story was beautiful, but the climax came a bit abruptly… Until that moment, I thought the pace was perfect and I loved the epilogue. Obviously, it didn’t affect the story enough for me to give it less than 5 stars and it shouldn’t deter you from reading it because the book is simply outstanding!!
