Another Sky by Jayne Frost
My rating: 5 of 5
Jayne Frost is an immensely talented storyteller whose writing I find deeply satisfying. And while I knew I would love Another Sky, I was still blown away with the power of her words all over again. It’s been nearly a year since the release of the last book by this author, Down to You, and I have spent the time in between that book and this becoming reacquainted with the first five books in her Sixth Street Series just because I could. And just as satisfying as those rereads were, there was something about Another Sky… a dual POV story about second chances in love, healing and learning to love yourself that was powerful and deeply moving. It was an incredibly beautiful romance that was unpredictable and exquisitely well written! But it was also simply stunning in terms of Jayne’s writing. She’s got a quality to her storytelling that I find unique and the lyrical quality of her words fits well with the rockstar trope she writes.
Another Sky is steamy, passionate and truthfully?! Sheer perfection. The story is complex with a hero, Miles who walked away from a tour bus crash that killed his best friend and his girl… that leaves him broken in more ways than one. And a heroine, Gelsey whose only love has always been ballet until her body begins to break down after years of punishment. When these two opposites meet, it’s hate at first sight, but as they say, there is a slim line between love and hate. Another Sky is unlikely to leave you unscathed… it certainly didn’t leave me without heartache and happiness in equal measure and is one of those rare love stories that I treasure.
Quotes:
Gelsey was here. Gazing at me as if she carried the promise of another sky in her big blue eyes. One with no clouds threatening on the horizon.
I sounded desperate. And I guess I was. Desperate to find out what she meant by inexperienced. And eager to volunteer to help with her learning curve.
I feared she might fly away if I released her. Because she could. I’d seen her. And I knew I’d never separate the girl from the dance again. Not after tonight.
“Tell me something no one else knows.” You’re going to break my heart.
Gelsey might gift me with a dozen sunrises, but in the end, she’d leave me in the dark.
I’d never truly fit in here. I knew it. Russian, but not Russian enough. American, but not really. In the real world, it didn’t matter. The lines were fuzzy. But in this world— the dance world— I didn’t have a place to claim as my own. A home. Except with Miles. He was my home.
Gelsey and I were in it together. I’d give her all the days. And all the time. And she’d give me everything else.
