Almost by Danielle Norman – 4 solid stars

I jumped in feet first with this book since I only recently discovered Danielle Norman and I was beyond intrigued with the books blurb and cover art…I mean come’on that’s an intense and beautiful image for sure. Therefore I skipped book one in this series and started with book two. Readers will love this sweet and easy romance that isn’t overly angsty and offers plenty of sizzle and a few plot twist that aren’t expected.

In Almost, we meet Sophie, a woman who fell in love 10 years ago with the sheriff that pulled her over for speeding. Leaving her heart with him, Sophie disappears for 10 years leaving Carter and her family in the dark as to why. Now she’s back and she’s got 10 years worth of baggage hidden in her closet…and Carter on her tail for day one!

The thing that I loved about reading a new author the new treasure trove of jewels they have in their back stock that you can’t wait to get your hands on. And Danielle Norman definitely gained a fan in me after reading Almost. This book was well written and had a fairly steady, good pace. I loved the duel pov. Hearing both characters thoughts always makes getting to know them and understand the story so much more enjoyable to me. Obviously, I mentioned previously that the blurb grabbed my attention straight away and the plot kept me turning the pages. I struggled a bit with Sophie’s character. Her secret and the reasons she keeps it bothered me because I doubt that a woman from a family background as strong and true as Sophie’s would ultimately be very unlikely to keep a secret of this nature. I guess I felt it made Sophie a little immature for her age. Carter however was very enjoyable and I loved his relationship with Stella. Then there was the fun and engaging secondary characters that you quickly become just as engaged with…I definitely want to read something in the near future for Stella and Tristan! There has to be a spark there and I want to see Danielle Norman exploit it!!!

My only real drawback to the book was that I quickly guess the issues the characters were going to struggle with as the book progressed. Yet I do want to point out that Danielle Norman did a favorable job of writing the story to keep the reader turning the pages instead of putting the book on the shelf early on. (I finished every word and didn’t shelf the book like I thought I might at one point.) I also struggled with how Sophie cooped with certain issues, as I alluded to above. It’s probably just me and not something that the next reader will take issue with and therefore I didn’t feel like I should review the book as anything less then 4 stars. I recommend the Danielle Norman wholeheartedly and would tell you to grab Almost right now.
