I love working in the book industry especially since I am constantly given the privilege of reading new authors and books I might not otherwise have chosen. Sometimes you strike out, and sometimes you strike gold. With You’re to Blame by Lindsey Iler, I feel like I not only struck gold but discovered a new author to add to my list of favorites. She has definitely gained a fan for life. You’re to Blame is extremely well written and so compelling you won’t want to put your kindle down.
Charlotte Novak has more on her plate then she can continue to juggle between school, work and her daily trips to the hospital. Then, as if she doesn’t have enough complications in her life, she meets Duke Anderson. The two are insanely attracted to one another…much like a moth to a flame. Duke takes one look at Charlotte at the end of his bar and knows that he needs to stay away. She belongs to his brother and nothing good can come from poaching. Yet, he’s as drawn to her as she is to him. Sometimes the thrill of the forbidden attracts us more…Is that the case with Charlotte and Duke? Who’s to blame…
Lindsey Iler’s newest works is beautifully written new adult/college, contemporary romance. Readers will be delighted with this slow burn romance with a touch of the forbidden. Upon seeing the cover of this book released on Facebook, I actually stalked the author and asked for a blogger’s copy so that I could get my hot little hands on it before its official release. I mean, that cover is just gorgeous! However, it was Lindsey’s skill with words that kept me reading throughout the night until I had finished the very last line. This book was crafted to immediately suck you in with its angst and heartbreak and when you think you know it all, the book will take arched in a direction that I myself didn’t see coming. You’re to Blame is told in duel POV, which happens to be my favorite delivery for a love story. I just feel like you can connect easier with both characters. Only, with Lindsey’s latest work, it’s so skillfully crafted that regardless of being in on both character’s psyche, some secrets remain up to the end of the story. I loved that she had a few cards still up her sleeve and when we hit the 80% mark the story kept building. It wasn’t just an extended epilogue as happens all too often.
There are other reasons I loved You’re to Blame as well. Lindsey’s characters of Charlotte and Duke were amazing…truly amazing. Fighting their attraction at every turn, Charlotte and Duke formed an unlikely friendship. And regardless of the situation Charlotte found herself in, readers will be pulling hard for “more” between this hero and heroine. Their chemistry is almost tangible. Like I mentioned above, they are incredibly drawn to one another and readers will feel this attraction. I did want to yell at them a few times to get their heads out of their asses but honestly, as a new adult/college romance, some of this is expected. Characters really sell the story – both the primary and secondary characters – and it was proven on both counts that Lindsey Iler knows how just how essential this point is. Her secondary characters offered enough drama to add to the story and leave readers hoping to see them again in their own books. Another strong point in loving this book is the awesome storyline. Since I knew nothing of the author going in, I felt really open and didn’t have expectations or a set model from previous works. While I did clue in at different times that something was off, or I wasn’t being told the whole story from Charlotte or Duke, I was still surprised with the secrets that were revealed.
Overall, I would give this story 4.5 stars. Instead of arguing any further about why I loved this story, I would suggest you grab it immediately. I highly doubt you’ll be disappointed.
