The Rich Boy by Kylie Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I absolutely adored this book. Adored isn’t strong enough of a word… but then again, neither is FLOVED. It’s been two days and I am still trying to come up with that perfect word… a word that’s strong enough to describe how very much this book entertained me, left me hot and bothered, and completely under Kylie Scott’s spell once again.
I used to reread her books so often that I have them memorized and in the last two years, with growing blog responsibilities, I haven’t got to read through every book in her catalog on a year rotation as I had done from the start—when Lick was first released. It was 3 days old and I remember rereading the book as soon as I finished it and telling my BFF that she needed to drop everything and start reading this one. Then I spent every single day searching for the next book in the series to release and the months in between were some rivaled as some of the most hard-up I’ve ever been to read an author’s work. In fact, it’s only ever been that way for me with two other authors until I started blogging and expanded my downloads from eBooks from B&N to predominately Amazon. And I literally feel like I’ve lost my best friend right now since once again, I’ve finished another exceptionally entertaining book by Kylie Scott—in this case, The Rich Boy—and I know that it will be months if not a year before I have another new Kylie Scott release in my hands!!!
If you’re reading reviews, the first thing I would tell you is that Kylie writes with a sense of humor and a style unlike any author I’ve ever read. And I read a LOT! Like my average is a book a day for my blog plus I am always in the midst of either beta reads or editorial jobs. I average 700 books a year for the last few years and it’s truly a passion…one that I’ve shown my kids and they also exhibit at just 4, 6, and 8 they too could read a book a day if I could afford that many. 😉 (And let me say, KU is a godsent for this very reason!) But alas, I digress…
I can honestly say I’ve never read something by Scott that is less than a five-star read. I have never once read something by her only one time, and as I mentioned above, until very recently, I’d read and reread each book in her catalog yearly. Like full-blown binge-read her without a break because I love her characters, the way she tells a story, the combination of sexy, sweet, angst, and humor that you find in every single book… Ugh, my list is long and really what it boils down to, is you’re not going to hear me lament anything about a book by Kylie Scott.
But, let’s talk specifically about The Rich Boy and why this book deserves more than just the customary five-star review. First of all, I’m telling you the chemistry between Beck and Alice is off the charts smoking hot and the real torment was just how much of a slow burn this one is. I was seriously concerned that I was having a stroke by the time the real sexy times commenced. But it’s not just physical between this pair, Beck and Alice have a magical connection that bleeds from every single page you read…metaphorically of course—this is not a dark romance; blood, guts and mind f*ckery is not on this particular menu!! Instead, its in the way they converse with one another, the support and friendship they find themselves falling deeper and deeper into even in the midst of the vast differences between their lifestyles. It’s absolutely stunning to read their relationship as it grew and became more than I initially anticipated and when the floor fell out from under them, WOW. I literally felt it as keenly as Alice. My heart hurt for her, and for Beck. Because without question, I was attached to them both by that point. I don’t usually cry in books, and by that point, I didn’t even notice that I had started to cry as this couple’s pain was so beautifully penned and laid bare for the reader. I couldn’t have put this book down to save my life. In fact, I finished it at 4:30 in the morning and decided the hell with falling asleep because it made no difference at that point. Instead, I drank vast amounts of caffeine and pushed through until I could take a power nap late in the afternoon. That’s the kind of story you’ll find yourself devouring if you pick up The Rich Boy. It’s not one you’ll put down, guaranteed. I felt it was truly the perfect pace and flowed beautifully. And I laughed…Oh how hard I laughed reading this book. Without a single doubt, I’m telling you that this is a book that will cement Kylie Scott on your list of favorites—whether you’re new or old to her writing, The Rich Boy is that book. Don’t wait to buy this one, start it immediately!
