Nine: The Tale of Kevin Clearwater by T.M. Frazier is available now!

My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

…I know firsthand that sometimes you gotta burn shit to the ground to appreciate the beauty in the ashes.

My love for T.M. Frazier’s work is strong, and I can’t tell you how desperately I wanted more of the King Series in recent months, so it goes without saying that when the chance to read N9ne: The Tale of Kevin Clearwater for my blog emerged, I was willing to leap tall buildings… sell a kidney… basically well, you know… just about anything! 😉 And I consider myself incredibly lucky to have gotten selected to review an early blogger’s copy because I truly love the way Tracey writes a story and the entire King Series. And let me be clear, N9ne did not disappoint. The recommended reading order is:

1. King
2. Tyrant
3. Lawless
4. Soulless
5. Preppy Part 1
6. Preppy Part 2
7. Preppy Part 3
8. Up In Smoke
9. N9ne

Now, while I strongly encourage you to read these books in order, N9ne is written as a standalone. The previous books within the King Series do not have to be read prior to digging into N9ne, but I’ll say this: if you have even the slightest interest in the author’s work, then start with King as this series contains a progressive plotline and each character is heavily intertwined with the others.

Sometimes, you gotta almost die to remember that you’re alive.

I stumbled across Tracey’s writing in 2015 shortly after the release of King and I was utterly consumed by her storytelling. And with each book, I was ready to chuck my kindle at the devastation I felt… the sheer torture that Tracey inflicted with cliffy after cliffy. If you follow my reviews, you already know I loathe cliffhangers and therefore, I was on the edge of my seat with those she penned. Yet I could not get enough of her writing. The King series is not a contemporary romance, as a matter of fact nothing about it is fluffy, sweet or soft. Instead, it’s dark, gritty, sexy and utterly raw. It’s where my love of dark romance began. These characteristics were without a doubt what first enthralled me and I positively love the number of books we’ve seen in the series. King & Doe, Bear & Thia, and Preppy & Dre became some of my favorite fictional characters. After my recent string of contemporary romance, returning to Logan’s Beach and the wrong side of the Causeway is exactly what I needed!

Over the last few years, he’s become just as infamous for both his intelligence and unforgiving brutality.

The antihero of the story, Nine, is actually Preppy’s younger brother. I wasn’t sure what kind of character we would see, but knowing Preppy’s background, it was sure to be disturbing—spoiler alert: I wasn’t wrong on that front! Yet, I was also surprised by him repeatedly. Of all the antiheroes I have loved over the years within literature, I must stay that I found Nine almost normal. He’s got issues, and rightly so with his history, but I freaking loved him. (and his nine inches certainly didn’t hurt😉😆) So after discovering Nine wasn’t the unhinged antihero I expected, I began betting heavily on an unhinged heroine. And once again, I was wrong. Although she tries to blend with those in her social circle, she never quite succeeds and ultimately, I found myself surprised by Lenore’s character. She’s stared death in the face and walked away. Seriously I loved her as much as I loved all the other heroines Tracey’s written and I want more of their once in a lifetime love.

Love.
What they say about it is true. It fucking hurts.
Love is a two-sided sword that cuts at every turn. I know this because Poe’s edges are sharp, and my heart is sliced to fucking shreds.

Nine contains lies and secrets aplenty and was anything but predictable. It’s set to a fast pace and I couldn’t put it down… finishing it in one setting though was no challenge because I was just as invested in the story as I have found myself with the previous books in the series. And I daresay as close to a slow burn as Tracey would write… but do not mistake that statement because the sexual tension was intense and high, and TM Frazier never disappoints when it comes to the level of heat in her books.

This is a solid five-star read.
