Recklessly Devoted by Emily Bowie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Recklessly Devoted is book three in the Bennett Brother series by Emily Bowie. As a military romance with an enemies-to-lovers trope, I was quick to sign up for the opportunity to read and review this book for the author. I already owned the other books in the series, although I hadn’t had the opportunity to read them prior to reading Recklessly Devoted. As part of a series, I can honestly say that you can read Recklessly Devoted as a standalone, however I am sure that your reading experience can only be enhanced if you read them in series order.
Recklessly Devoted follows eldest brother, Brody Bennett as he sets out to win Cassy Campbell. The story will have you laughing out loud as the two pair off in outing each other with their childish tactics to get under the other’s skin. The author certainly knows her way around the sexy times as well! The chemistry between Brody and Cassy is scorching hot and I was very impressed as the two saw their relationship excel much like a forest fire would spread! With intensity and at warp speed, the lovers never stood a chance against one another. I also loved the relationship between the brothers. It is reminiscent of my own relationship with my siblings and brings a lightness to the story that is very much appreciated. The story pace is a little on the fast side, but I still enjoyed the author’s storytelling abilities. I also liked the few twists she included in the plot. Some of which I saw coming and others, not so much.
There was really only one part of the story that I didn’t love, and perhaps could have appreciated more if I had started from book one, The Society. It felt a little like an afterthought. But again, that could just be because I wasn’t introduced to the concept from the beginning. Either way, it wasn’t bad, just felt a little rushed and could have used more development. Overall, I definitely give this book a four star review, and think that you can do a whole heck of a lot worse than Emily Bowie’s Recklessly Devoted. I know that I enjoyed sitting down and getting immersed in a new author and new plot! As I am sure you will as well!!!
