Recovered by Jay Crownover
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Ok, so I am not going to lie, Jay Crownover is seriously a go-to favorite author of mine and has been for a number of years. That said, while I have never rated her books lower then four stars, her name alone doesn’t guarantee that she can’t miss the mark here or there. Yet, with Recovered, she not only hit the mark, but she nearly replaced Rule and Retreat as my reigning favorites by her. I don’t think I can express to you just how much I loved this book. Obviously, I am going to try…hints this review but I wouldn’t sit around reading these with this one because I am positive whether this is your first book or your fifteenth by Crownover, you’ll LOVE Recovered as much as I did.
Recovered has an amazing plot that readers will fall head-over-heels in-love with. The pace is perfect! And the message behind this story?! OMG, WOW! While they are not a hard limit for me, I tend to prefer stories whose plots are not based on substance abuse. Yet, the tone of this story and the rawness of Recovered made it impossible for me to but down. Also, it’s exceptionally well written. All of the books Crownover writes have great characters, but there was something in this enemies-to-lovers romance that just grabbed ahold of me from the first page. As with most enemies-to-lover romance, the sparks make this book positively combustible but there was something extra special to me about Cable and Affron. Obviously, to get a five-star review, I felt like there was something spectacular about these characters; about their chemistry which was nothing short of positively smoking hot! I love that in true Jay fashion, Recovered maintained a tale that didn’t sacrifice the nearly erotic tone so many of her story have. Something about Cable is more complex to me than other characters in Crownover’s backstock and I fell for him in spite of his character flaws. And Affron? Wow, this girl seriously had my heart and my admiration from the first page to the last. Yet her story is every bit as heartbreaking as Cables. Perhaps my only initial dislike of the story is the characters names…but honestly, as you get to know them, they just really take on these very unique names. Besides, unique names are a hallmark of Crownover’s books. 😉 So if that is literally the worse criticism I can think of for this book, I hope you have ceased reading reviews and one-clicked this book!!!
