🍏 Lessons in Corruption by Giana Darling – 5+ STARS 🍏

Lessons in Corruption by Giana Darling was WOW!!! OHHHHH SO GOOD! No, not good, its EXCELLENT!!Β  Wait…it’s even better than EXCELLENT! I’m just at a loss for a word to describe a book this spectacular.

I am a newer reader to Giana Darling, having only discovered her when she was advertising for Bloggers to help promote the cover reveal to Lessons and I messaged her requesting a chance to review this book for her. The blurb had me intrigued enough to seek her out. As a blogger and Editor, I tend to pick books apart and it sometimes makes enjoying a good book challenging, even if you truly love to read. In reading Lessons in Corruption, I have to say, I found a million and one things that I loved about the book. From the characters-both primary and secondary, to the plot, to the twists that you absolutely don’t see coming, to the originality from other books in this sub-genre, and the creative use of poetry, there was nothing to dislike. Even my least favorite thing of all, the spelling, grammar, and syntax were better than a good number of the authors whose work I read both professionally and personally – although I won’t lie, lately I seem to be on a winning streak and I’ve read several better than average stories! Giana obviously put her heart and soul into the story and whether you are a new (or old) fan to Giana’s work, I wouldn’t bother reading this review further, I would just one-click it immediately and start reading!

If you’re inclined to see what I thought, well here goes…

Lessons in Corruption is the story of Cressinda and the life she’s decided to take back for herself…or make for herself on the wreckage of her past?! Really, either outlook works. She’s lived her whole life with a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other, both whispering to her about how she should live… what her life should be… until Cress decides that after eight years she can no longer stomach her loveless marriage and leaves her husband. Months later, with few changes to her life, Cress takes a chance and accepts a ride on a motorcycle from a man she has only seen once before. That night changes her life forever. King Kyle Garro is the son to the President of a motorcycle club called The Fallen. He’s eighteen, but the first time he meets Cress, he’s as entranced by her as she is him and months later, without telling her of their connection he offers her a ride on the back of his bike. Only later, Cress discovers King is also her student. Can Cress be the Queen to King? Or will she walk away?

This story was beautiful and deep in a way I have not experienced in other MC romances. Obviously, Sons of Anarchy while certainly entertaining to many, isn’t a good representation of MC life as a whole. In writing, Lessons in Corruption, Darling takes creative liberties to discuss SOA, and there is a small percentage of the book that does focus on action. The remainder of the book focuses on MC life as it surrounds the family like structure the club offers, and the way it affects the community. Β Darling uses John Milton’s Paradise Lost in a way I have never seen before. Obviously well versed in the Epic Poem, Darling embeds its concepts into her plot to strengthen the story. I wouldn’t give away spoilers by saying how she does this, but her use of the poem was genius! It took considerable thought and someone who has read and understanding of Milton’s work in order to discuss it as she did in this context and I cannot commend her enough!

The storyline is fast moving and highly entertaining with some of the best sexy times I have read outside of outright Erotica. Also, while I usually find myself struggling to identify with a character whose POV is absent from a story, Darling shared King’s feelings masterfully through poem and simple communication… and subsequently, I didn’t experience this disconnect. Darling left no unwoven threads, had very little errors in the way of spelling and/or grammar, and overall, she provided readers a thoughtful romance that they can enjoy again and again. Her twists were top-notch, and I was completely blind-sided by them. Readers know that the relationship between Cress and King would turn sexual, but we had no idea how the story itself would transform. Bravo Giana Darling!

The characters were another well thought out move on Darlings part. It was obvious in her writing that she had taken time to develop them and explore who they would be to the story. This statement holds true for both primary and secondary characters and it is without doubt that readers will find themselves championing more then one person they wouldn’t have thought to. I personally LOVED King and regardless of the lack of duel perspective, he was my favorite character. However, I can’t say that definitively because I swear Darling took Cress right out of my own head. She is so very much like me the parallels were eerie.

I often try to pick lines out of an author’s work to highlight their abilities for a number of reasons. Sometimes its as simple as giving a taste of the sizzle an author is capable of, and others a taste of the sheer beauty of their words. Below you will find a combination of quotes I pulled out that I felt stuck with me, spoke to the story, and while in no particular order will not give away spoilers to the plot.

“I wanted to turn my body into one of his poems, an ode to me written in my skin and bones.”

β€œI wanna eat you until I’ve had my fill, and Cress, Babe, I’m a growing fuckin’ boy and I’m starving.”

β€œHe was leaning against the kitchen counter…in his school uniform minus the striped tie and navy blue blazer. It occurred to me that he should look like a schoolboy waiting for a ride to class. Instead, he looked like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a creature of violence and instincts and sex wrapped up in shiny packaging meant to make him innocent. Instead, it amplified his threat.”

β€œI’d been a married woman, lived enough years to control my baser instincts, especially after William had successfully cauterized them for so long.”

“Grown women don’t get on their knees for boys, do they Cressinda? So, you have a choice. You can tell me to get out or you can get on your knees for me now and I’ll show you how a real man treats his woman, starting by letting you workship my dick with that beautiful mouth of yours Like I know you’re aching to.”

Overall, I truly can’t wait to read more of Giana Darling’s work, and I will for sure be begging her to keep me as part of any blogger team she may have. Even without that possibility, I’ll be stalking her on social media to keep abreast of any further Fallen MC books and likely be on the hunt for everything she has written to date! I hope that if you read through my review to its conclusion you don’t hesitate to buy Lessons in Corruption now. If you’re a new reader, I guarantee you’ll be as captivated as I was by King and Cress.
