The Wrong Gentleman by Louise Bay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love was bullshit. Something people made up to sell greeting cards and wedding venues. I wasn’t interested. I liked certainty, and I could provide that for myself.

I’ve just finished The Wrong Gentleman and OMG! This book was OUTSTANDING. Straight up sexy and entertaining from start to finish–and I couldn’t slap a five-star review on this one quicker!

It was as if Skylar was really two people— the one she showed and the one she hid—and I wanted to uncover both.

Good Lord, I have been living under a rock for the last several years obviously because I have seriously missed out reading Louisa Bay’s work. As a blogger, my schedule is always packed, and I truly feel like I miss out on some awesome books. When the opportunity arose for me to read an early blogger’s copy of The Wrong Gentleman, I was ecstatic and jumped all over the chance to finally discover what everyone in my social circle was always going on and on about. This is that point in my review with I say that I should have obviously listened to them sooner. 😉 But alas, I won’t be making the same mistake again.

In so many ways she was exactly my type— blonde, beautiful, and up for some fun— but below the surface, like white noise, there was something telling me this girl was not like the others.

From the minute I picked up The Wrong Gentleman, I was hooked. Louisa Bay’s writing is fluid and (without being over the top) the angst was exceptional! I loved how sexy the story was and the characters depth. Obviously, Louisa Bay is well known within the romance community for her sexy, contemporary romance novels and is a USA Today bestselling author. And yet somehow, I have been unable to get her into my blog schedule for more than two years. After reading The Wrong Gentleman I couldn’t be more upset with the length of time it’s taken me to discover the authors talents for myself.

I hadn’t even kissed her yet, but I knew it would be one of the most memorable of my life.

The storylines of The Wrong Gentleman sucked me in and damn if I wanted to put this book down to save my life! I wasn’t able to read it in one setting like I would have loved, mostly because sleep claimed me. However, I found the plot addictive and completely original. It should be noted that my reviews rarely contain the standard retelling of the story’s plot. Instead, I love to leave readers with the things I pull out of a story that really catch my attention. For The Wrong Gentleman, I have many. First, I loved the exotic location the story was set in. This book takes place in the exquisite South of France. Something about the local really struck me—whether that’s because I am currently snowed in or because I have the soul of a gypsy, I can’t honestly say but I loved it regardless. It was fresh and not overdone in romance.

This girl might be the only woman I ever wanted to sleep with more than once. And ironically, she clearly wasn’t interested in anything but tonight.

Then there were the characters, Skyler and Landon, who were well thought out and truly enhanced the plot. They have incredible chemistry and there was a time I worried my kindle would combust. You should definitely be forewarned with this one: have a change of panties and your spouse on standby—or your batteries charged! This book was SEXXXY!!! 😉 Whereas many romances are written with a broken male protagonist, in the case of The Wrong Gentleman, that fell to our heroine. Skyler’s run her whole life after her entire live is shattered when she is still young. I didn’t necessarily understand her position from the standpoint that I have been in her shoes, but because Louisa did such an amazing job writing Skyler—her intermost thoughts and character growth was second to none—and that made me truly love this heroine. Then there was Landon! OMG, Landon. He’s seriously your next book boyfriend. He’s British. That’s all you need right to classify him as your next book boyfriend, right?! (Haha) In all seriousness, this hero has it all. He’s an ex-military billionaire that’s confident, smart, protective, British (oops, I digress… 😉). Landon’s excessively talented at making panties drop but never has one woman tempted him to settle down the way Skylar has. Watching their relationship bud from friendship to more was very fulfilling. And I loved who they were together.

I was ready to come in her mouth, down her throat, over her face, and on her breasts. I wanted to cover her in my come. Claim her. Make her mine. Shit. Before now, women had always just been women. Skylar was everything. Every fantasy, everything too good to even imagine and more.

The Wrong Gentleman is a dual perspective romance that is sure to check off so many boxes for romance lovers with its combination of the sexy and suspenseful. In addition to loving the storylines and characters, Louisa did an exceptional job of writing an unpredictable romance. I would think I had everything figured out and the next thing I knew, she was throwing a wrench in it. I can’t recommend The Wrong Gentleman enough and would tell you to one-click this beautiful and entertaining romance immediately. Don’t wait like I did to read Louisa Bay. I can only hope that I will be able to read more of her words in the very near future. If you are looking for heartbreaking second chance romance full of passion and suspense, you’ve found it!
